2. What this policy covers

This policy covers the MD1 app, MD1 web pages, the launch notification, and information you choose to send us about MD1. General inquiries made through the company website are covered by our company privacy policy.

3. When you use MD1

MD1 reads and writes the Markdown files you choose on your Mac. We do not receive your documents, their contents, or the fact that they exist.

Information stored on your Mac

The following information is stored on your Mac. It is not sent to us.

• Version history — MD1 saves a copy before writing a file and when it detects a change made by another program. MD1 keeps up to 50 versions per file. If the history exceeds 128 MB in total, it removes older versions first. Because it always retains the newest version of each file, the total may remain above 128 MB. Versions older than 90 days are normally removed, while the newest five versions of each file are retained.
• Crash-recovery copy — MD1 keeps a copy while a document has unsaved edits and deletes it after a save. If a copy remains after a crash, MD1 asks whether to restore it the next time it opens.
• Document event log — MD1 records when a file is opened, saved, or updated after an external change, together with the time and file path. It does not include document contents. When the file exceeds 2 MB, MD1 keeps the newest 2,000 entries at the next launch.
• Diagnostics — MD1 stores up to 300 records about actions it stopped because they could not be completed safely, files it could not open, byte offsets, and error codes. It does not include document contents. MD1 also writes some diagnostic events to the macOS unified log, which macOS manages under its own retention rules.
• Preferences — theme, window layout, and similar settings.
• Folder access — a macOS security-scoped bookmark, so a folder you opened can be reopened next launch.

MD1 removes information automatically when the limits above are reached. Other local information remains as app data on your Mac. Contact us below if you need instructions for deleting it.

4. When MD1 connects to the internet

MD1 does not fetch an https:// image referenced by Markdown by default. If you choose “Show Remote Images for This Document,” permission lasts only while that document is open. If you choose “Download Remote Images into Folder,” MD1 saves the images beside the document and rewrites their links in the Markdown. MD1 connects to the image host only after you explicitly choose one of these actions. The host receives the IP address, image URL, request time, and other information normally included in a web request.

MD1 is a one-time purchase from the Mac App Store. Apple handles the transaction outside MD1. Neither MD1 nor we receive your payment information.

5. Information you choose to send us

MD1 never sends diagnostics automatically. You can review the report created by Report a Problem before sending it. If you choose to send that information through our contact form, we use it to respond to you and investigate the issue.

We use the name, email address, and message submitted through the contact form to verify your request, respond to an inquiry or privacy request, and keep a record of our response. See our company privacy policy for details.

6. When you visit this website

Cloudflare processes connection data to deliver and secure this website and prevent abuse. This may include the IP address, access time, requested URL, referrer, and device or browser information. We can view aggregate traffic information, such as request counts, in the Cloudflare dashboard. We do not export and store individual access logs elsewhere.

We do not currently use Google Analytics or any other advertising or behavioral tracking tool. We do not set tracking cookies. If that changes, we will update this policy before use and obtain consent where applicable law requires it.

Cloudflare states that it retains connection data for periods needed to provide and secure its services and meet legal obligations. The period varies by data type and purpose. Where the GDPR applies, we rely on our legitimate interests in delivering and securing the website and protecting it against abuse.

7. When you request a launch notification

We use your email address to tell you once when MD1 launches. The message will include a link to the Mac App Store. Google Forms records your email address, consent response, and submission time. Google Forms also sends you one response receipt immediately after registration. Registration is optional. You can use MD1 without it.

Google may separately process your IP address, device and browser information, cookies, and other connection data to provide and secure the form and reCAPTCHA and prevent abuse, under Google's Privacy Policy.

Where the GDPR applies, your consent is the legal basis for this processing. We do not use this information for profiling or automated decision-making. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

We retain the information until we send the launch notice or you withdraw consent, whichever comes first. We then promptly delete it from the form and lists we control. Google states that deletion normally takes around two months and that copies may remain in encrypted backups for up to six months.

8. Service providers and international processing

We use Cloudflare to deliver the website and Google Forms to receive launch registrations. These providers may process information outside Japan or your country of residence. Processing locations, subprocessors, and transfer safeguards are governed by our contracts and the providers' data-processing terms. Our agreement with Cloudflare applies Standard Contractual Clauses where they are needed for international transfers. Transfers involving Google are governed by our agreement and applicable data-processing terms. You may contact us for information about the safeguards that apply.

MD1 includes no analytics, advertising, or third-party SDK that sends data to us. We do not sell personal information or disclose it for another party's advertising purposes. We may disclose information where the law requires us to do so.

9. How we protect information

We limit access to the people and permissions needed for each purpose, protect account credentials, review access rights, and delete information when its purpose ends. We also select service providers and review their applicable terms. If an incident occurs, we will investigate, remediate, and make any legally required reports or notices.

10. Children

The launch notification is not directed to children. If we learn that we received a child's email address without valid consent, we will delete it promptly.

11. Your choices and rights

Where Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information applies, you may request notification of purpose, disclosure, correction, addition, deletion, or suspension of use, subject to the law.

Where the GDPR applies, you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent. You may also complain to the supervisory authority in your habitual residence, place of work, or the place of the alleged infringement.

We do not charge a fee for a request. We may ask for the minimum information needed to verify your identity.

12. Who runs MD1 and how to contact us

MD1 and the launch notification are operated by Marutaki Communications LLC. Where the GDPR applies, we are the controller that decides why and how personal data is used.
