1. About MD1

MD1 is a Markdown editor for the Mac. It reads and writes files in a folder you choose. There is no cloud, no account, and no sync.

2. What we collect

Nothing. We never receive your documents, their contents, or the fact that they exist. We have no server for them to reach.

3. What is stored on your Mac

All of the following stays on your Mac. We cannot see any of it, and deleting the app removes it.

  • Version history — copies of a file as it was, taken before a save and when MD1 notices another program has changed the file underneath you. These are your documents. Older copies are removed automatically once limits are reached.
  • A diagnostics log — why MD1 declined something, the name of a file it could not open, byte offsets. It never records the contents of a document. The file Report a Problem writes is yours to read before you decide to send it, and you send it, not us.
  • Preferences — theme, window layout.
  • Folder access — a macOS security-scoped bookmark, so a folder you opened can be reopened next launch.

4. When MD1 uses the network

There are exactly two cases.

  • A purchase. In-app purchase is handled entirely by Apple's StoreKit. MD1 never sees your payment details.
  • A remote image, and only when you allow it for that document. If a document references an https:// image, MD1 does not fetch it by default. When you allow it, the server hosting that image learns your IP address and the fact that you opened that document. MD1 is not sending them anything; that is what the host of a remote image observes. This is why it is off by default. The permission belongs to one document and does not carry to another.

MD1 makes no other network requests.

5. Third parties

None. We receive nothing about you, so there is nothing to pass on. No analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDK.

6. Children

MD1 collects no information about age, because it collects no information.

7. Requesting your data

We hold no personal data of yours, so there is nothing to disclose or delete. What is on your Mac goes when you remove the app.

8. Changes

Any change is published on this page and takes effect when it appears.
